At Exmouth Museum & Heritage Centre you can catch up with the past of the fishing village that became the largest town in Devon.  Inside, you’ll find personal possessions, photographs and stories about our people, their families and businesses.

We’re entirely run by volunteers.

There was a strong Voluntary Aid Detachment in Exmouth and an Auxiliary Hospital. We have this uniform in the Stables and photos of the personnel and their patients at the VAD Hospital.

We need

  • Stewards (regulars in the museum; standbys to fill in and for special events)
  • Maintenance (this could be painting, carpentry, cleaning and mending or gardening)
  • Records, research and queries from the public
  • Fundraising and campaigns, especially business liaison and applying for grants, managing Gift Aid
  • Fundraising activities such as our monthly Coffee Mornings, helping on the day, baking? donating raffle prizes
  • Website and Digital – maintenance and developing new projects
  • Conservation of artefacts (with training) – new opportunities
  • Management Committee (could you eventually be our new Secretary? 0r our Treasure?)
  • Trustees

In Loving Memory of Bernice Williams

Geoffrey Williams would like to extend his sincere thanks to everyone who attended the funeral service of his late wife, Bernice Williams, on 18 December 2025.

Bernice, Museum Assistant Treasure, will be sadly missed by everyone at the museum and by all who knew her. A plaque in her memory has been placed on the bench outside the museum where Bernice loved to sit and rest.

The number of people who came to pay their respects was totally unexpected, and Geoffrey was deeply overwhelmed by the kindness and support shown. Many of those present were people he did not know personally, which made the turnout even more touching. If he was unable to acknowledge everyone on the day, he offers his heartfelt apologies and hopes this message conveys his gratitude.
