Festival of Thanks for our Armed Forces
Saturday 10th June 2023 – The day started with the closure of Sheppards Row for which official permission by the Police, Council, Fire Brigade was given.
The Museum hosted a Festival of Thanks for our Armed Forces in Sheppards Row which was closed for the day. Flags and bunting created a great atmosphere with special exhibits showcasing the town’s long association with the armed forces both in the Museum and in the street.
The event was rung in by the town crier and officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Exmouth, Olly Davey.
The Royal Marines Association and Royal Marines Historical Society, the Royal British Legion and Exmouth Girl Guides had stalls and exhibits included military vehicles; with local collector and author Simon Fogg bringing along a display of deactivated armaments.
At 12 Noon the bugler from the Exmouth Town Concert Band sounded Revielle and the standards of the Royal British Legion, Royal Marines Association, Exmouth Guides, Exmouth Brownies and Exmouth Rainbows were all presented to the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Devon, Brian Wills- Pope, MBE and the Mayor, Olly Davey, who took the salute. The ceremony concluded with the band playing the National Anthem.
